support the gsnv

Ever wondered how you can help your favourite Genetic Support Organisation (that's us, in case you were wondering!)? Like most non-profit organisations, we're always happy to hear from people who'd like to help out - and we can always find tasks for volunteers! Read on to learn how you can help us to help you...

membership ... volunteering ... committee ... sponsorship ... donations ... altruistic shopping

Become a Financial Member!

How does this help GSNV? Did you know that the GSNV's Small Grants Project is funded entirely from Membership fees? Grants from this project fund support groups to run workshops, print brochures, or buy books for their libraries - so becoming a financial member really does help us to help you.
How does this help me? If you are a support group, you've just read the answer to that question! We also provide a Support Group Newsletter, containing information and news relevant to support groups. If you are an individual member, financial membership gives you access to our newsletter, and discount or free registration for GSNV events, as well as the opportunity to nominate for our Committee of management. If you are a health professional, the GSNV keeps you in touch with the support group community, and can help you and your patients find the community resources they need.
How do I do it? This one's easy! Visit our Membership Page, fill in the form, print it out, and send it with your cheque, payable to Victorian Clinical Genetics Services, to Genetic Support Network of Victoria, PO Box 1100, Parkville, Victoria 3052.

Be a Volunteer!

How does this help GSNV? With only two staff members, large mailouts or larger events can be difficult to run - and there are some seminars we just aren't qualified to give! Volunteers can help us by dropping in for an hour or two of envelope-stuffing at newsletter time, by assisting at events such as Family Days or morning coffees, or by offering to be speakers at seminars or workshops.
How does this help me? Volunteering is a good way to build experience, and looks great on your CV (and better on your karma!). We are happy to write detailed letters of thanks and/or references for our volunteers.
How do I do it? Browse our News, GSAW and Family Day pages to see if there is anything you'd like to do, then give us a call on 8341 6315. We'd love to hear from you!

Join the Committee of Management!

How does this help GSNV? The Committee of Management provides direction to the GSNV. Its members also provide time, experience, expertise and enthusiasm, and their support at GSNV events. Committee members are support group representatives, people living with genetic conditions, healthcare professionals and interested members of the public.
How does this help me? You mean, aside from giving you something really fun to do one evening a month? Becoming a committee member is your opportunity to be a part of determining the direction of the GSNV. It's also great experience if you are interested in starting a support group of your own, both in terms of seeing how a non-profit organisation works, and in terms of networking.
How do I do it? Contact Leah on 8341 6315 to find out how to nominate for Committee.

Sponsor us!

How does this help GSNV? Sponsorship can be the donation of goods and services, or the provision of goods and services at a discount, or it can be financial support of a specific project. Sponsorship helps us to run events more cheaply, or allows us to subsidise more expensive events to make them more accessible to our membership.
How does this help me? Sponsors will be mentioned on our website and in our newsletter, and will also receive a letter of thanks from the GSNV. The GSNV has Deductible Gift Recipient Status, so donations over $2 to the GSNV are tax deductible.
How do I do it? Contact the office on 8341 6315 to learn more about sponsoring the GSNV.

Donate to the GSNV!

How does this help GSNV? Your donation will help us to fund events such as Family Day and Genetic Support Awareness Week, as well as seminars, workshops, morning coffees, and ongoing projects.
How does this help me? Apart from the warm glow you will feel at having helped us out, all donations over $2 to the GSNV are tax deductible.
How do I do it?

Send your cheque, payable to Victorian Clinical Genetics Services, to Genetic Support Network of Victoria, PO Box 1100, Parkville, Victoria 3052.

NB - a click-to-donate facility is currently being organised through OurCommunity.com.au - watch this space for more information.

Shop online and fundraise for the GSNV!

How does this help GSNV? When you shop through Self-Fundraising, a proportion of what you spend returns to the GSNV as a donation. This donation will help us to fund events such as Family Day and Genetic Support Awareness Week, as well as seminars, workshops, morning coffees, and ongoing projects.
How does this help me? You can indulge in retail therapy AND help us at the same time! What's not to like? Self-Fundraising offers a very wide range of shops and products, from gifts to computers, books, clothing, banking and travel.
How do I do it?

Visit the Self-Fundraising Website, select a shop, and select GSNV as your charity - then start shopping!
